What Is Swedish Massage?
Swedish massage is the best-known and most common massage in North America. The hand techniques include gliding, kneading and cross-fiber friction to break up muscle knots called adhesions. It is perfect for relaxing those tired muscles and lifting the weight of the day off your mind.
Who Invented Swedish Massage?
The father of Swedish massage (and also) physical therapy is Per Henrik Ling (1776-1839) of Smaaland, Sweden, a physiologist and fencing master.
Is Swedish Massage Relaxing?
Swedish massage can either be vigorous or very smooth and relaxing depending on what your massage therapist believes in the best for the different parts of your body. There are often knots to work out requiring cross-fiber friction which is not relaxing and can be discomforting.
